Ever since my son, Daniel, came to this world, my center of universe has shifted. Both his Dad and myself are engineers, so it is not surprising before we realize there are a lot of toys labeled as STEM in our house.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. It is amazing how many STEM toys in the market today. From young age, kids learn circuits, coding and robotics.
But I find these STEM kits though fun and educational, it does not necessarily promote creative thinking. By following steps in the manual or tutorial, kids can create fun things but they just follow the instructions.
The purpose of this blog is to share our experience on creating things from the Lego pieces we have. Daniel mostly likes the moving stuff such as motors, cars, robots etc. So our builds are reflecting that. Most time we have an inspiration, could be from some robot kit or a book, then we try to create something based on inspiration. Since we don’t really have a lot pieces, a lot of time we need change the design to make it work. I am hoping we can inspire other kids to create rather than just following.
