Cute Rubber Band Powered Push-Down Car

When Daniel was 6 months, I bought him a Press N Go Inchworm. It was a fun toy. You just need to push it down in the center and off it goes! No battery needed. 😀

Wouldn't it be neat to recreate something like that with Lego?

Just before the Christmas I bought a new book Lego Technic Non-Electric Models: Simple Machines by Yoshihito Isogawa. We like the books by Yoshihito. When I saw model #131, which is a nice push down car, I knew Daniel would love it. Sure thing, when I showed it to him, he couldn't wait to build! But soon he ran into problems, there were quite a few pieces that we don't have. A few of those were key pieces, including a couple of connectors and gears. We also did not have the wheels showing in the book, but that was not an issue since Daniel wanted to use the bigger wheels used on the Lego Technic Gateway Truck.

We did it!

We have to make quite a bit change to get our parts to work. But the principal was the same. We even added two eyes, which was a nice touch. The eyes always make everything a lot cuter.

Below is the comparison of the car in the book and ours.

See how it works and step by step instructions.
